It’s no secret that the Oakland Athletics are turning heads this season with their impressive and young pitching corps. Recent call-up Sonny Gray has been phenomenal in his debut season, and the rest of the Athletics pitchers are following suit.
Amongst the talented bullpen a few names are distinguishing themselves lately. Sean Doolittle brought some hype on Saturday’s game against the Houston Astros as he earned his first save of the season. Earlier in the week Dan Straily performed amicably against the Rangers, setting up notoriously talented closer Grant Balfour to bring the game home for the win.
Relieving pitchers have become a pillar of Oakland’s playoff run. The ability for Oakland pitching talent to support each other will prove valuable as things heat up. As they make their way through the stretch towards October, the Athletics will see some tough games against the Rangers, Angels, Twins and Mariners. Teams like the Rangers and the Angels will be seeing a lot of Oakland in September and it will fall into the hands of the Oakland bullpen to stay ahead of dangerous hitters present on both teams.
