The Oakland Athletics have shocked the sports world by obtaining and retaining the moniker of the “hottest team in baseball.” Last week Oakland won four out of five games against two of the toughest teams in Major League Baseball: The Cardinals and The Cincinnati Reds. The stage is set for their continued conquest of Middle-American teams as The Athletics host the Chicago Cubs.
Josh Donaldson has been a large part of the Athletics offense at home lately, he will need to step up in a big way to continue his streak in the midst of a few key Athletics injuries. Coco Crisp has been experiencing back spasms after a diving catch made last week against St. Louis, and A’s starter Jarrod Parker has been dealing with a troubled hamstring. Parker has been 4-0 as of late and if he is unable to take the mound than newcomer Sonny Gray might be called upon.
The Chicago Cubs have been playing inconsistently as of late. They have riding a very unremarkable streak for the month of June, with 15 losses and only 12 wins. They did however score a few key victories against competitive teams such as a memorable 14-6 win over the Astros for the final game of their series.
The Oakland Athletics may have had a slight dampening of their heat wave in recent weeks, but they have a prove ability to get hot again. The three game series against the Chicago Cubs will start off today at 7pm PST as starting pitchers Griffin and Feldman battle for Coliseum dominance.
