Raiders part ways with one of the best to play the game.

Raiders part ways with one of the best to play the game.

Shane Lechlers departure had to happen, it just had to. It had to because first Shane made it happen, and to his defense Im sure he wanted his perennial pro bowl effort to make an impact on a team that could actually contend for a championship. It also had to happen because its just one more of Al Davis' jewels that had to leave for the metamorphosis to be complete.

The end of the Raider bad ass era is near fruition. I mean hell even Merle from the Walking Dead bit the big one this week! Raider fans will miss Shane's mile high kicks, amazing consistency, and the field position advantage he gave them. More than that they will miss that in any given season regardless of injuries or coaching changes they could count on at least ONE Raider making the Pro Bowl. No more.

Now this team has to be different and with hope, better. Its not that a punter has that much of an impact on the success of a team(as the Hall OF Fame tells us by keeping the best punter ever, Ray Guy out), but it's what his loss represents. More than any other player on this team to leave he represents all that Al did right. Al made a lot of mistakes between moving the team(twice), bad free agent signings(Deangelo Hall, Larry Brown), bad draft picks, (Jamarcus sizurp), and bad coaching choices
(Lane "please fire me" Kiffin). He also forgot more than what most GM's know and was right quite often. Here's to you Shane. Thanks for your efforts.

...a tale told by an idiot with sound and fury signifying nothing.

  2. For the past 2 years of unrest in Raiders Nation they could always count on the kickers to at least put them in a position they could fight back from and now we have nothing more than mediocrity on both sides of the ball.
