Notre Dame is the most polarizing school in College Football. You either love them or hate them. Manti Teʻo will become the first purely defensive player to win the Heisman Trophy Saturday night.
The Heisman Trophy is usually a QB Or RB trophy, but this year will be different. While Johnny Manziel, QB Texas A&M, had an outstanding season I don't think he's going to win. First, he's a Freshman and second he only had one signature win. The win over Alabama was huge and on the national stage, but I don't think it's enough.
Manti Te'o is the leader of the Notre Dame team. Notre Dame is the number one team in the nation lead by their top rated defense. While a defensive player has a lot to overcome, this will be the year one breaks through.
There are several reason Te'o will win. First, he is going to get the Notre Dame bump from voters. It's team gets covered more than any other in football regardless of record. This year there is reason to talk about them and they're getting even more exposure. Second, thy are always on national tv. Everyone gets to see them play and they're familiar with the team and key players. Finally, the voter distribution will work for Notre Dame. Manziel will carry the South West voters and probably the south east due to their SEC roots. Te'o will carry the Midwest due to location, the eastern regions because of their exposure on the east coast. The difference will be that Te'o will carry the west regions because of their schedule. Playing Stanford and USC will be the difference.
Notre Dame's popularity, national exposure and schedule will be the difference.
